Civilian killed and market damaged by the blast of an IED of unknown origin in a market in N. Aleppo governorate on May 26

An IED of unknown origin placed in a car in the main market of Afrin city in the northern suburbs of Aleppo governorate exploded on May 26, 2021, killing a civilian from Aleppo city, named as Muhammad Assani, and injuring nine others, in addition to causing some damage to a number of shops.
The city is controlled by the Syrian National Army, with SNHR still trying to contact witnesses and survivors to obtain more details of the incident.
SNHR condemns all attacks of this nature which target and kill civilians and calls on the governing forces in each area to bear responsibility for protecting civilians in the areas under their control, and to conduct investigations into all such incidents and reveal their findings to the public. Stability will not be achieved in Syria without achieving a political transition towards democracy implemented according to a strict timetable.
