The body of a 23-year-old refugee Iraqi civilian, named as Alaa Nabyan Hammad, was discovered in Section One in al Hawl IDP Camp near al Hawl Camp in the eastern suburbs of Hasaka governorate on March 22, 2021, bearing signs of gunshot wounds.
SNHR notes that al Hawl IDP Camp witnesses an unprecedented rise in killings recently as we documented the killing of 43 displaced persons, including ten children and 11 women, in the camp since the start of 2021.
Although the SNHR is unable to identify the party responsible for this civilian’s killing, the area is controlled by the Syrian Democratic Forces. Despite the controlling forces bearing responsibility for revealing the perpetrator’s identity, they have not launched any investigation which increases the suspicion of their involvement in the killing.
