A 25-year-old man, named as Ismail Muhammad al Jdou’e, from Ein Eisa city in the northern suburbs of Raqqa governorate, was arrested by Syrian Democratic Forces personnel on December 1, 2020, during a raid on his home in the city and taken to a detention center in the city where he was tortured to death. His body was handed over to his family the next day, bearing signs of torture.
SNHR notes that about 3,337 Syrian citizens are still detained or forcibly disappeared in the SDF’s detention centers, constituting a grave threat to their wellbeing given the spread of the COVID-19 coronavirus pandemic.
SNHR also notes that about 57 Syrian citizens have died due to torture in SDF’s detention center.
