First Lieutenant Feras Shams al Din, the leader of police and public security forces of Baza’a town in the eastern suburbs of Aleppo governorate, who came from al Qseir city in the suburbs of Homs governorate, was one of the victims of a massacre in al Bab city in the eastern suburbs of Aleppo governorate on November 24, 2020, caused by an explosion of a so-far undetermined type and origin in the city. He was at the scene along with a colleague, policeman Mus’ab Othman, who was killed in the same blast. SNHR is still trying to contact witnesses and survivors to obtain more details of the incident.
SNHR condemns all attacks of this nature which target and kill civilians in a brutal and indiscriminate manner, and calls on the governing forces in each area to bear responsibility for protecting civilians in the areas under their control, and to conduct investigations into all such incidents and reveal their findings to the public. Stability will not be achieved in Syria without achieving a political transition towards democracy implemented according to a strict timetable.
