A 35-year-old man, named as Luqman Mustafa Yousef, from Tirmisha village which is administratively a part of Afrin city in the northern suburbs of Aleppo governorate, was arrested by Military Police personnel affiliated with the Syrian National Army on September 3, 2020. Since then, he has been classified as forcibly disappeared, with the forces denying any knowledge of his arrest and preventing anyone, even a lawyer, from visiting him. On November 10, 2020, the Military Police personnel informed his family of his death in a detention center in Ma’rata village of Afrin city when they handed Mustafa’s body to his family. Our data from numerous sources confirms that he was in good health at the time of his arrest, indicating that he probably died due to torture and lack of health care.
SNHR notes that about 3,244 Syrian citizens are still detained or forcibly disappeared in the Armed Opposition’s detention centers, constituting a grave threat to their wellbeing, with about 45 Syrian citizens having died due to torture in the armed opposition’s detention centers.
